Nice Airport to Cannes: The Easiest Way by Public Transport

If you’re flying into Nice Côte d’Azur Airport and heading to Cannes, the journey is surprisingly easy, inexpensive, and takes around 45 to 60 minutes in total. With a combination of the airport tram and a regional train, you can avoid expensive taxis and reach the centre of Cannes quickly.

Step 1 – Leave the Airport

Whether you arrive at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, simply follow the signs to the tram stop outside the terminal.

Take Tram Line 2 or Line 3 towards Grand Arénas. The journey is only one stop, takes just a few minutes, and this section of the tram route is free of charge.

Step 2 – Walk to Nice Saint-Augustin Station

From the Grand Arénas tram stop, it’s only a short walk to Nice Saint-Augustin railway station. The station is modern and directly connected to the tram stop by walkways and lifts.

This station is far more convenient than travelling into Nice city centre first, saving both time and money.

While the area is generally busy and well used by travellers, it is also known for pickpockets, particularly during the tourist season.

A common distraction involves people who appear extremely friendly and helpful. They may point visitors towards the railway station or offer directions. Some then enter the lift with tired travellers heading up to the platforms, creating an opportunity for theft in the confined space.

Pickpockets have also been reported around the tram stops and occasionally on the tram itself.

Keep your valuables securely zipped away, avoid carrying your phone or wallet in easily accessible pockets, and remain aware of people standing unusually close, especially when boarding lifts, trams, or crowded platforms. Most journeys are completely trouble-free, but a little extra awareness can prevent your holiday from starting badly.

Step 3 – Take the Train to Cannes

Regional TER trains run frequently between Nice Saint-Augustin and Cannes.

The journey takes approximately 30 minutes, with beautiful views of the Mediterranean coastline along parts of the route.

If you’re arriving later in the evening, check the timetable carefully. At the time of recording, the last direct train from Nice Saint-Augustin to Cannes leaves at approximately 10:50 pm. Timetables can change, so it’s always worth checking before travelling.
